Zanzibar Car Rentals was founded in Zanzibar with one clear goal: to give visitors a better way to explore the island. Not a franchise, not a chain — a local business run by people who were born and raised here, who know every road, every shortcut, and every hidden beach worth visiting.

From the beginning, we built the business around what travellers actually need: transparent pricing, reliable vehicles, and a team they can reach directly on WhatsApp. No call centres, no confusing terms. Just honest service from a team that genuinely cares about your experience on the island.

Our fleet has been carefully built to cover every type of traveller and every type of journey Zanzibar has to offer. Compact SUVs for couples who want to navigate Stone Town's narrow streets. Spacious 4x4s for families heading up to Nungwi or down to Jambiani. Premium options like the Toyota Harrier and Land Cruiser Prado for those who want the full experience.

Every vehicle in our fleet is regularly serviced and maintained. We take road safety seriously — not just because it is the right thing to do, but because we want every customer to come back and tell us about the places they discovered. The island has more to offer than most people realise, and a well-maintained hire car is what makes it all accessible.

Transparent pricing. No surprises.

One of the things that sets us apart is how simple we have made the payment process. You browse our fleet, use the price calculator to see your exact total, and submit a booking request. Once we confirm your reservation, you simply pay in full when you collect the car — no upfront payment required.

The only additional cost is the driver permit fee — $15 per driver, one-time — which covers the local permit required for self-drive car hire in Zanzibar. Everything else is exactly what you see in the calculator. We built our pricing this way because we believe trust starts before you even arrive.

Beyond car rental — transfers, tours, and taxi.

While Zanzibar car rental is the heart of what we do, Zanzibar Car Rentals also provides airport and ferry transfers, hotel-to-hotel transfers, island tours with a local guide, and taxi services across Zanzibar. Whether you need a vehicle for a single journey or a hire car for your entire stay, we can arrange it.

All transfer and taxi prices are fixed and agreed in advance. A transfer from the airport or ferry terminal to Stone Town is $20. Transfers to any coastal area — Nungwi, Kendwa, Paje, Jambiani, and beyond — are $50. We are available around the clock and can usually accommodate bookings made the same day.
